Meet Alicia!

Good morning!

Yesterday was a very special day for me because my mom got to come visit me in Zeeland, and from there we both went to meet Alicia at the hospital for her check up and to hear the baby's heart beat. We then took her out for dinner afterward for a little meet and greet and it went wonderful! I am so thankful these two beautiful women got to meet.

While we were visiting, I started telling Alicia about our blog. She responded really well to my idea of introducing her to everyone here. So, with her permission I had the pleasure of taking some pictures on our outing.

I am so pleased to introduce Alicia: Our future son's strong and beautiful birth-mom.

This is a blog about our family and our journey in adoption.

Adoption is a lifelong process and depending on who you talk to, it can have a very negative connotation attached to it. But I would like to challenge that thought process by opening our journey to you and offering another point of view.

We have what is called an open adoption. Which means that we have a relationship with the Birth-mother and Birth-Father of our adopted son E. Their is no legally binding contract to make it so, but we willingly choose to have this relationship for our son's benefit, as well as theirs. We refer it as an "Hospitious Adoption" (A book by: James L. Gritter) or an adoption based on hospitality.

Now, we are not experts within all areas of which we may speak, but rather we offer you only our convictions and thoughts. Our desire is to write and speak about open adoption so that more may know of its existence. And that if you must listen to someone speak of adoption, I pray you listen to someone who is intimately involved enough to offer you a well rounded view of what and how adoption affects all involved.
